This is by far the easiest caramel recipe out there!
Sugar Substitute
No corn syrup, cane sugar, or any sweetener at all needed in this caramel recipe. Nope, not even a healthier sweetener like coconut sugar. That’s because Medjool dates are packed with natural sugars and provide the butterscotch flavor and gooey texture that caramel needs.
Medjool dates are a wholesome replacement for refined sweeteners. They are chock full of essential vitamins and minerals that your body will thank you for. Medjool dates are a great source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin B6, niacin, calcium, phosphorus, riboflavin, vitamin K, thiamine, and zinc.
While the amount of sugar in dates may have you questioning their nutritional value, keep in mind that the sugar is balanced by fiber. One hundred grams of Medjool dates has 6.7 grams of fiber which is key in balancing the sugar content.
Caramel Sauce Tips
This recipe for homemade caramel is thick and somewhat dip-like. But it can be easily transformed into a drizzly caramel sauce with just a minor tweak. Simply add ¼-½ cup warm water to the date caramel. It’ll thin out the caramel so it can be poured and drizzled.
If you love your sweets with a savory twist then double the salt! The juxtaposition of sweet and salty is a tried and true winner that’ll leave you salivating.
