Breakfast Sausage Recipe with Maple and Fennel
It’s so easy to make a breakfast sausage recipe that’s healthier than what you’ll find in stores. Made with organic ground meat, real maple syrup, fennel seeds, and herbs from the farmers market, this breakfast sausage recipe tastes fresh, healthy and delicious.
Choose ground turkey, pork or chicken (if you’re feeling ambitious, grind your own). Then add herbs and spices and gently pan-fry the sausage patties in olive oil. That’s it! Whether eaten with a side of eggs, in-between an English muffin, or in the car as breakfast-on-the-go, this breakfast sausage recipe is something both kids and adults will love.
Makes 8 small breakfast sausages
Ingredients
1 pound ground turkey, chicken, or pork
2 teaspoons maple syrup
2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh sage
2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves
2 teaspoons fennel seeds, roughly chopped with a knife
1/4 teaspoon allspice
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Directions
In a large bowl, gently mix together all ingredients. Form 8 patties, about 2 1/2 inches across.
Heat a little oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Pan fry the patties for about 5 minutes a side, turning once to brown both sides, or until the internal temperature is at least 160° on a food thermometer.
The sausage patties made from this breakfast sausage recipe stay fresh for several days in the refrigerator.
