5 Yummy Stops on a NYC-to-Cape Cod Road Trip
Anyone who’s ever visited the Cape during peak season knows at least two things: 1) There is no better place to find clam strips, and 2) Traffic is a nightmare. The latter, however, isn’t quite as bad – and is almost enjoyable – when offbeat stops are made along the way.
The route from New York to Cape Cod might last for a solid five hours (or more), but it’s also packed with small, beautiful towns populated by unique businesses, many specifically dedicated to the environment. Whether it’s a break from maddening bumper-to-bumper, a sudden need for fresh produce or just an excuse to see quaint New England, these five NYC-to-Cape stops are sure to break up any road trip’s monotony.
1. Fuel: B & H Vegetarian Restaurant

We know it’s bad to leave for a road trip with an empty gas tank. And since the boutique’s owners frequently host parties, fashion shows and sales, Tracy b is easy on both the environment and the wallet.
3. Eat, drink and be merry: Bruna’s Table

Okay, so, this is more of a stop for those who want to divide the drive into two days… or who can at least spare a few hours to sober up after sampling Bruna’s selection of organic beverages (which includes an Italian red, a Spanish white and an English lager). What’s more, the food menu features not only homemade pastas and sauces, but salads tossed with organic greens. Arrivederci, gridlock!
4. Stock up: Four Town Farm

“Know your farmer, know your food.” It’s a mantra recited by Chris Clegg, the fifth-generation owner of the century-old Four Town Farm. Some say that Four Town, a popular destination among Cape-bound commuters, carries the best strawberries in the region; others say the same of their tomatoes. As for Clegg, he’ll snack on snap peas “like candy” during their peak season, inviting customers to experience the vegetable’s sweetness for themselves. Move over, beach chairs: You’re sharing the trunk with farm fresh cantaloupe.
5. Arf!: Fetch Pet Boutique

And who can forget our beloved furry friends? If Fido and Fluffy are tagging along for the ride, be sure to stop into South Dartmouth’s Fetch Pet Boutique, an animal-friendly outlet replete with everything from handmade accessories to organic T-R-E-A-T-S. Who’s a good girl?
