The Key to Jessica Alba’s Energy and Glow: The ‘Fab Four’
“Sin City” star Jessica Alba is pregnant with her third child; continues to stun the business world with her booming personal care business, The Honest Company; and from the looks of her Instagram feed, this do-it-all momtrepreneur is an avid stationery cycler.
There’s a lot more to this woman, but just one of those things alone is exhausting in itself. So how the heck does she sustain so much energy? How does she always look so glowy? Well, thanks to Kelly LeVeque, Alba’s go-to nutritionist, you are now privy to Alba’s supermom, super-CEO secret sauce (er, at least part of it).
LeVeque, who recently released her book, “Body Love: Live in Balance, Weigh What You Want and Free Yourself From Food Drama Forever,” is fanatical about what she refers to as the “Fab Four”: protein, fat, fiber, and greens. “Those four things together actually turn off all the hunger hormones in your body and elongate your blood sugar curve. Instead of counting calories, we’re looking for and counting up the things that our cells need to feel calm and relaxed,” LeVeque told InStyle magazine. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner, consuming the Fab Four helps you maintain fullness, stay energized, and prevent hangry surges, all while feeling and looking rejuvenated.
In fact, LeVeque, who also counts Molly Sims and Emmy Rossum on her client roster, advises Alba and her other famous clients to start every morning with a Fab Four Smoothie. “When it comes to energy, skin health, and weight loss the #fab4smoothie is the key!” LeVeque exclaims on her namesake site. “For some new clients, I spare them the science and simply ask them to start every day with a Fab Four Smoothie and within the first week I am getting exciting texts about how their skin is glowing, energy is high, and the scale is down.”
The Fab Four Smoothie isn’t a specific recipe (so your taste buds won’t be bored to tears)—it’s more of a guideline, so to speak, which LeVeque posted on her site:
Kelly LeVeque’s Fab Four Smoothie
“PROTEIN+ FAT+ FIBER + GREENS + LIQUID + FRUIT (1/4 cup or less optional)
PROTEIN: 1 serving or 20 g of protein Organic pea, grassfed whey, bone broth or collagen
FAT: 1 tbsp minimum per serving Almond butter, coconut oil, avocado, walnuts, MCT oil – flavorless medium chain triglyceride oil from coconut or sunflower butter
FIBER: 1-2 tbsp or 10 g of fiber Chia seeds, flax or acacia
GREENS: handful Kale, spinach, cucumber, parsley, cilantro, etc.
OPTIONAL FRUIT: ¼ cup maximum per serving Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, acai
LIQUID: 6-8 oz per serving Unsweetened almond milk, coconut water (only acceptable for fruit-free smoothies) coconut milk, plain water”
After breakfast, continue eating the Fab Four—in solid form. (And thanks to the smoothie, you won’t be starving by lunchtime or reaching for unhealthy snacks come the 3 PM slump.) While you don’t have to be overly precise in terms of portions for protein, fat, fiber, and greens, make sure you don’t go overboard on any of the four, especially the protein and fat. For example, for dinner you could eat about four ounces of salmon topped with one tablespoon of olive oil and two cups of fresh greens tossed with olive oil and lemon juice. You can find some great recipes in LeVeque’s book and on her site.
When asked about her celebrity muses by Refinery29.com, even supermodel Chrissy Teigen mentioned Alba looks “natural, beautiful, young, and fresh.” Turns out all you need for some “Fantastic Four” mojo is the “Fab Four”!
