How Naomi Watts Makes 50 Look Amazing
She craves healthy foods. Really.
If this is what 50 looks like on actress Naomi Watts, then we’ll have what she’s having. And what she’s having, according to a recent interview with Shape magazine, is a lot of healthy food, making the time to work out, and being fanatical about skincare.
Sounds pretty simple, right? Here’s exactly how the Oscar-nominated star looks so effortlessly beautiful (and fit) at 50.
She Eats Healthy (Most of the Time)
“I grew up in the ’70s, and my mom was a hippie in the day who baked her own bread and made vegetarian dishes,” the star shared with the magazine. “So that’s my comfort food. Superhealthy. It’s what I crave.”
Although the “Ophelia” star admitted that she can’t constrain her eating habits too much (“I’ll end up rebelling and not doing the right thing. So I allow myself room for naughty and nice,” she said). Which means that Watts will eat some french fries but will balance that out with removing a lot of wheat, sugar, and dairy in her diet.
Removing that trio — wheat, sugar, and dairy — from your diet seems to work wonders for most. Numerous experts recommend doing a sugar detox simply because many of us are addicted to the sweet stuff. Robert Lustig, professor of pediatrics and member of the Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California, San Francisco, told CNN in 2017 that about 10% of the US population are true sugar addicts.
Those who have participated in sugar detoxes (you can find a slew of them on the Internet) report weight loss, clearer skin, and more focus and energy.
While most experts might be worried that giving up dairy and wheat without just cause isn’t entirely necessary, the side effects are worth looking into it. Eliminating dairy and wheat is known to help increase weight loss, and can help with digestive issues and skin problems.
She Lifts Weights
“As you get older, you have to work harder to keep muscle tone, so that’s why I do strength training with weights. Not the three-pound kind but with higher-level weights using barbells,” Watts shared with the magazine.
Weight-training has multiple benefits for people of all ages. It increases your metabolism, builds confidence, and helps improve functional movements in your day-to-day, such as bending, squatting, pushing, and pulling.
The actress also shared that she prefers low-impact exercises, like yoga and Pilates, which are ideal workouts to help improve core strength and flexibility.
She’s All About Skincare
While the star admitted she’s not too much into makeup, Watts did reveal that she’s very dedicated to her skincare regime.
“My skin has become extra sensitive and reactive, so I realized that I needed to cut out the chemicals that were in the products I was using. Keeping it clean is really key.”
Detoxing your beauty routine is a must for a healthy and clear complexion (and body). Since skin is our body’s largest organ, everything we consume and place onto our bodies, including our beauty products, is put into our bodies.
Unfortunately, so many traditional beauty companies still use toxic ingredients in their products, which is why using natural, simple, healthy products on your skin, like Watts does, is the best gift you can give to your skin.
The Takeaway
Looking beautiful at 50 is pretty simple if you stick to Watts’s wellness routine. By eating well, treating yourself occasionally, having a well-balanced workout regime, and taking care of your face with clean products, you too can look just as luminous.
