At 64, Christie Brinkley still looks like she could grace the cover of Sports Illustrated. She’s a (senior) smoke show. So how does she do it?

The supermodel recently shared her tips for staying fit with Women’s Health, and, luckily for us regular folk, they’re pretty relatable.

She Sticks to a Vegetarian Diet

Brinkley told the magazine that a book about a slaughterhouse prompted her to switch to a vegetarian diet at 13. “I took one look and said, ‘But I love animals. I do not want to take part in this barbaric system,’” she said. “I gave my kids the gift of being vegetarians as well. It’s the way to go!”

It’s certainly the healthy way to go. A growing amount of research throughout the years suggests that eating a plant-based diet helps to lower the risk of heart disease and diabetes, as well as keeps you leaner and saves on your pocketbook

She Goes Low-Carb to Shed Those Extra Pounds

When it comes to dropping weight fast, Brinkley said she thinks cutting carbs is the way to go. She’s not wrong. While there’s debate as to whether cutting carbs is actually good for you, recent research has suggested that the best way to maintain weight loss may be to change your diet to a low-carb one.

However, Brinkley did admit that, even while going low-carb, one “should be able to like, live it up.” So, if you want to have a donut, you should have the donut. In fact, you most definitely should eat that donut if you’re trying to lose weight. Research has found that giving yourself an incentive or reward, like your favorite carb-y treat, can be an effective strategy for weight loss goals.

She Takes Spinning Classes

The new judge on Lifetime’s beauty competition American Beauty Star shared with the magazine that she actually adores those tough-as-nails spinning instructors.

“I love spin instructors. Yeah, sometimes you need a little drill sergeant to inspire you and keep you going.”

Spinning is an intense form of cardio that improves your heart health while strengthening and toning your legs, glutes, and core. And because it’s easy on the joints, it’s a great form of aerobic exercise for those who find running too demanding.

As for those instructors? Well, a little motivation never hurt anyone. Participating in a fitness class like spinning is not only empowering but can also help you move beyond your perceived limitations.

The Takeaway

When it comes to looking like a swimsuit model at 64 like Brinkley, one needs only to stick to spinning, and eating a vegetarian and low-carb diet — while also treating yourself once in a while.
