5 Morning Inspiration Mantras to Start Your Day Consciously
Morning inspiration can change the entire day.
When you wake up in the morning, what are the first thoughts that run through your head?
Damn alarm clock!
6AM already?
Mrrrffflllllfhggghhrrrrrrgh
Let’s face it: you don’t always spring out of bed with a smile on, ready to face the day in a positive way (unless you’re a dog). The bed is so warm and cozy and welcoming, and the day can be so… busy and stressful.
The moments between the time you wake up and the time you actually get up can be turned into a precious ritual of morning inspiration. Make this space me time and choose the morning inspiration mantra that you need the most. You don’t have to say morning mantras out loud for them to work; saying them to yourself in your head is fine. Try out your new mantra every day for a week, and see if your outlook has changed.
1. Gratitude
Every morning, list ten things that you are grateful for – and keep going with as many as you can think of. It doesn’t matter if they are the same basic things every day; in fact, it’s a good practice to acknowledge the blessings you might take for granted: good health, a safe place to sleep, soft sheets, breakfast in the pantry, shoes to wear, a job… etc. Name the things you are thankful for, and close off the list with this mantra: I appreciate the abundance in my life.
2. Self-Worth
Did you know that you are a worthwhile human being? The divine spark of life resides within you. You are amazing! Doubtful? Start each day by thinking of ten things that you like about yourself. Big things (I am smart) to small things (my fingernail polish looks pretty) – count up ten reasons why you love yourself, and keep going if you can. Visualize a bright white light emanating from your being and repeat this mantra: I am a worthwhile human being.
3. Connectivity
You are one with the universe, but sometimes (like in traffic) you can forget this. Start each day by acknowledging the living beings that surround you and their innate beauty. First, say good morning to your neighborhood. Next, expand your circle of consciousness and say good morning to your city. Move on to your state or region, then your country, then the entire planet, and finally the universe. Repeat this mantra: I bow to the divine spark in you and in me.
4. Encouragement
Need a cheerleader? Someone to encourage you when times are tough? Tell you that everything will be okay? Your finest inspiration comes from within. It’s nice to have others behind you, but if you learn to be your biggest support, then you’ll never lack for encouragement. Repeat this mantra – in fact, chant it until you believe it: You can do it.
5. Slowing Down
Do you feel like you are rushing through life not even seeing the roses, much less smelling them? Use your first morning minutes to get back in touch with your senses, and remind yourself to slow down. Go through each of your five senses. What do you hear? What do you smell? What do you taste? What do you feel? And finally, open your eyes. What do you see? Take a deep breath and repeat this mantra: I walk slowly with honor and grace. Now do it!
