More than 5,000 animals call the Toronto Zoo home. And all those elephants, lions, and gorillas make a lot of doo-doo. That’s why the zoo is proposing a $13 million facility to convert food waste and poop into biogas. It’ll power the entire zoo and thousands of households, and, will pay for itself in just 5 years; CBCNews reports.
Now, more crappy news! The muskrat, a semi-aquatic rodent native to North America, has a powerful antibiotic in its poop. And when dried and extracted with organic solvents, scientists claim this chemical could be used to kill plant pathogens, termites, salmonella, staph infections and other bacteria; via DiscoBlog.
