Actress Priyanka Chopra is the latest star to indulge in the turmeric trend that has taken Hollywood by storm.

The “Baywatch” beauty recently posted a video of Harper Bazaar’s #LittleBlackBook in which she mixed turmeric into a DIY beauty mask and applied it, a recipe she attributes to her mother.

Of course, a beauty mask is just one of the many methods in which you can use the Indian spice. Although it’s traditionally found in savory dishes and curries, its natural anti-inflammatory properties also make it a trendy latte, tonic, and juice, as well as a popular skincare ingredient.

Why Is It So Good?

Rich in bioflavonoids, beta-carotene, and vitamins C and A, as well as a host of other nutrients, its main claim to fame is the active compound curcumin, which may be responsible for many of the spices noted health benefits, including anticarcinogenic properties.

Although research from last year found that the spice’s superpowers may have been exaggerated, a new study seemed to reaffirm the turmeric’s reputation as an anti-cancer fighter, in addition to being beneficial in the prevention of chronic disease and inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, IBD and asthma.

The Beauty Factor

As Chopra proves turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties are just as good for the outside of your body as it is for the inside. The little ingredient is mighty powerful when it comes to treating an array of skin problems, including everything from acne to premature aging.

And it turns out that curcumin is pretty powerful when it comes to combatting inflammation caused by cystic acne, rosacea, and hyperpigmentation, which all can be difficult and frustrating to treat.
