The Health Benefits of Antioxidants

Eating Healthy

”The amount of antioxidants in your body is directly proportional to how long you will live."
- Dr. Richard Cutler, former Director of the National Institute of Aging, Washington

Antioxidants are the nutritional equivalent of man's best friend - they are loyal protectors and nurturers of our cells, repelling disease, and promoting good health. Antioxidants can come from healthy eating or in the form of supplements, and they include a family of naturally formed components like vitamin A, beta-carotene, lycopene, vitamin E, and more. They are believed to protect cells from free radicals, harmful oxygen molecules thought to damage cells that result in cancer, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, and rheumatoid arthritis, and they may be the underlying reason why we age.

Nuts

Fats have gotten a bad rap. Cruise any supermarket aisle, and the promises of “fat free” and “no trans fats” leap from the shelf. Confused consumers trying to eat well mistakenly eschew any kind of fat - and think they’re doing their body a favor. The fact is there are good fats and bad fats and it is important to know the difference.

MSG FREE, It’s Not as Clear as it seems
Written by Vicki Godal

This additive is a good reason to go organic and fresh.

Msg is something many Americans might think of when searching for Chinese food restaurants. The form of the word used in this case is Msg - free. Msg is short for monosodium glutamate. It’s a food additive that is used globally in abundance. In recent decades, msg was found by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be a nutrition-less but non-harmful food additive. Yet hundreds of scientists have published studies on the harmful effects of msg.  One study describes msg as a neuron disrupting excito-toxin with the potential to cause harm to human health. The scientific studies corroborating the multitude of negative effects of msg are published and available to the public. (See links provided below.) Yet despite the controversy, msg is an economic growth industry worldwide with millions of tons alone distributed to the United States annually.
